Korea Since C. 1400 The Chosŏn (Yi) dynasty The establishment of a Confucian state

Korea Since

When the dynasty was established, the territory under its control was named Chosŏn, with the approval of the emperor of China. The Chosŏn dynasty, with 26 monarchs, ruled from 1392 until the Japanese annexation of Korea in 1910. Hanyang (now Seoul) was made the capital. The Confucian ethical system was officially adopted and replaced Buddhism, which had become corrupt. Many Confucian institutions of learning were set up. Chosŏn society was dominated by a hereditary aristocratic class, the yangban (literally, “two orders,” meaning civil and military officials). Members of the yangban devoted themselves to the study of Neo-Confucian orthodoxy and, through civil service examinations, held public offices, their sole profession. Since they controlled all aspects of Chosŏn society and owned most of the land, the Chosŏn dynasty can be described as a yangban society.

A somewhat white Christmas expected for Sudbury

 Christmas

Most Canadians won’t be getting a white Christmas this year, The Weather Network forecasts.
“For Christmas Eve specifically, the weather is really quiet across the country — unusually quiet. Typically this time of year we’re talking about somebody getting clobbered with a storm,” said the network’s chief meteorologist Chris Scott.
In Sudbury, periods of light snow is expected for Monday with a high of -7 degrees C, according to Environment Canada. Tuesday, Christmas Day, will be mostly sunny, with a chance of flurries and a high of -7.
Wednesday, Boxing Day, will be sunny with a high of -11.
As for the rest of Canada, while most metropolitan areas such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver will get zero to very little snow, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Regina are “guaranteed” to get a white Christmas, Scott said.

What is Advent

Advent is the season of the year leading up to Christmas. It is observed with various traditions and rituals by Catholics and other liturgical groups such as Lutherans, Anglicans, and Methodists. In recent years, Advent celebrations of one type or another have been added to many evangelical services as well.

The word advent itself means “arrival” or “an appearing or coming into place.” Christians often speak of Christ’s “first advent” and “second advent”; that is, His first and second comings to earth. His first advent would be the Incarnation—Christmastime.

The Advent season lasts for four Sundays. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, or the nearest Sunday to November 30. Advent ends on Christmas Eve and thus is not considered part of the Christmas season. The Advent celebration is both a commemoration of Christ’s first coming and anticipation of His second coming. As Israel longed for their Messiah to come, so Christians long for their Savior to come again.

Advent

Advent is a season observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas and the return of Jesus at the Second Coming. The term is a version of the Latin word meaning "coming".

Japanese Cafe Found A Way To Employ Paralysed People As Waiters

Cafe Found

Robot waiters are not a new concept in the technology sphere. They are already used in several cafes, such as Naulo restaurant in Nepal which has employed three humanoid waiters called ‘Gingers’. However, a startup Ory Lab has taken this concept to brand new level. This month a Dawn Ver Beta cafe was opened up Tokyo, Japan for two weeks. It used Orly Lab’s robots to serve customers and the most brilliant part about the cafe is that all of the robots were remotely controlled by severely disabled people, for the sole purpose of helping disabled people gain more independence in their lives.

To Highlight Our Obsession With Phones, This British Artist Created A Relatable Sculpture

Artist

In this day and age, the majority of our day is spent on our mobile phones scrolling through posts that don’t really make us think about anything. It seems like we would rather spend time on our phones than talking to our loved ones. It is obvious that our obsession with technology is getting out of hand and it sometimes affects our relationship with our loved ones. This distance between people can often become an inspiration for modern artists.

Role of Water in the Ecosystem

Ecosystems are distinct biological societies made up of biotic, living elements like plants, animals and organisms and a physical environment – the abiotic components – such as soil, water, air, sunlight, and climate. The physical interactions and symbiotic relationships developed between all these elements in an ecosystem not only define it but bring distinctive focus to the cycles in nature. The role and function of water in the ecosystem is to provide the lifeblood of the community.

Inaugural Address to the Asian Regional Workers' Seminar on Decent Work in Agriculture

Work

On behalf of the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Bangkok for this Asian Regional Workers’ Seminar on Decent Work in Agriculture. This subject matter has historically been an area of vital importance to the ILO since its inception in 1919.
Several important ILO Conventions, including numbers 87, 98, 110, 141 and 184*, are primarily concerned with improving conditions of work for the 1.3 billion women, men, and children who work in agriculture.
Half of the world's workers are found in agriculture. About 40 percent, accounting for 450 million workers, are found in wage employment, while the remainder works in the informal sector.

Water

Water

Water is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth's streams, lakes, and oceans, and the fluids of most living organisms. It is vital for all known forms of life, even though it provides no calories or organic nutrients.

If nearly 79% of the atmosphere is made of nitrogen, how could there be a shortage of nitrogen in the soil.

could

We represent the dinitrogen molecule as NN...because (i) the filled bonding orbitals are so stable it is difficult to oxidize, and since the unoccupied molecular orbitals are high in energy, is (ii) difficult to reduce.
There are a few micro-organisms that can fix atmospheric nitrogen, i.e. bacteria that live in the roots of legumes, i.e. peas and beans....and only very recently have convincing model systems been developed that model dinitrogen fixation and reduction...
At any rate, the upshot of all this is when we grow plants and veggies we usually add nitrogenous fertilizer, i.e. nitrates, and ammonium salts, that contain nitrogen in a soluble and usable form.

How does the carbon cycle work

carbon cycle work

The carbon cycle is the biogeochemical cycle by which carbon is exchanged among the biospherepedospheregeospherehydrosphere, and atmosphere of the Earth. Carbon is the main component of biological compounds as well as a major component of many minerals such as limestone. Along with the nitrogen cycle and the water cycle, the carbon cycle comprises a sequence of events that are key to make Earth capable of sustaining life. It describes the movement of carbon as it is recycled and reused throughout the biosphere, as well as long-term processes of carbon sequestration to and release from carbon sinks.

How is the carbon cycle related to a food web

food

All living organisms are made up of carbon. Thus organisms are consuming carbon and being consumed by organisms made up of carbon.
Food webs and the carbon cycle are very closely related because every living organism is made up of carbon.
When a cow eats grass, it is consuming carbon. When a person eats the cow, the person consumes carbon. Thus, carbon moves through food webs.
It leaves living organisms through respiration and when organisms die and decompose.

What is a biotic factor which would affect the net primary production of a plant

 plant

Several biotic factors can affect the primary production of a plant, may it be an antagonistic action that would stress out the plant and decrease its primary production or on the contrary a positive interaction that would increase it.

Explanation:

The primary production of plants (a.k.a it's the production of biomass through growth) may be altered or boosted true a wide range of biotic factors ( a.k.a interaction with another living being).
Some good example of decreasing factor could be parasitism. Indeed, insects like several true bugs ( order: Hemiptera) feed on plants. This negative interaction could stress the plant and slow down the plant's growth.
Herbivory in some context could be a diminishing factor of growth. Lamarre et al.in 2012 show that in a poor environment where growth isn't easy to achieve, a high herbivory rate would favor a strategy of defenses instead of a strategy of high growth that would compensate herbivory.
On the other hand, positive interaction could help plant's growth. For instance the mycorrhiza symbiosis between plant's roots and ground fungus. This association where the plant feeds the fungus and the fungus help the root system to be more effective. This biotic interaction can help the plant to find enough nutrient to increase its growth (Mosse 1973).
There are many more examples of a factor that could affect the primary production of plants, competition, commensalism and every other ecological interaction that could happen in a community and that can be seen as a biotic factor.

What is water explain

Water is made up of billions of molecules. Each molecule is made of one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms held together by strong covalent bonds. ... Water on our planet flows as a liquid in rivers, streams, and oceans; is solid as ice at the North and South Poles, and is gas (vapor) in the atmosphere.
